What are the performance requirements for PP masterbatches that require our attention? Take a look.

Polypropylene is a non-toxic, odorless, odorless, milky, highly crystalline polymer with a density of only 0.90--"0.91g/cm3, which is one of the lightest of all plastics available. The masterbatch easily diffuses at high temperatures without damaging the quality and has excellent light, abrasion, and solvent resistance.

(1) Heat-resistance The pigments used in the PP masterbatch, the most basic requirement, can withstand the temperature of the polypropylene fiber production process and maintain its stable performance. The temperature resistance temperature is generally 270~280°C.

(2) Dispersed PP masterbatch pigments should have excellent dispersibility, and should be uniformly dispersed in the masterbatch, and the dispersant used should not reduce the quality of the polypropylene fiber. Otherwise, it is not possible to produce good-quality pigmented fibers, which are unstable in operation, and easily break or generate abnormal fibers when the fibers are drawn.

(3) Brightness The coloring of the stock solution has a variety of uses. Among them, the use of a bed base fabric and a knitted fabric requires a bright color tone. Because organic pigments are bright and vivid and easy to color, organic pigments are used for these applications.

(4) Lightfastness Some pigments have a photosensitizing effect due to light, which causes discoloration and brittleness of colored fibers. The lightfastness of a pigment is basically related to its chemical structure. Therefore, sufficient attention should be paid to the lightfastness of pigments when making masterbatches. When light-fast pigments are needed, consider adding UV absorbers.

(5) Stability Pigments used in PP masterbatch have excellent stability to colored polypropylene fibers. That is, the pigmented fiber polymer does not react with the fiber when it is exposed to heat, light or a high temperature for a long time, and a new chemical group is formed to make the polymer performance lower. Therefore, the masterbatch should be selected as pure as possible pigments, free of impurities such as iron, copper, lead and other salts, to ensure excellent physical properties of colored polypropylene fibers.

(6) Water resistance, dry cleaning resistance, oil resistance, coloring PP products in use and inevitably need to go through water washing or solvent dry cleaning, to contact with oil, especially when used in carpets, so the colorant used must have Good resistance to washing, dry cleaning, and oil resistance.
